My dog is scared of Fireworks, Thunder, Stoms, Gunshots, Traffic..........

Is your dog scared of or panics when it hears fireworks, thunder storms, gunfire, cars back-firing, central heating systems, doors banging.....?

There are many behaviours indicating that your dog may have a sound phobia and these can suddenly develop after a particular event for example, fireworks night or they can develop into more severe reactions over consecutive events as the dog becomes more sensitised.

Dogs that develop sound phobias display a variety of behaviours and these depend on the particular sounds and contexts in which the phobia developed. Below are listed some typical examples;

Fear of Fireworks
  • scratching at doors
  • not wanting to go outside in the dark
  • digging at the carpets
  • hiding under/behind funiture
  • running away
  • salivation
  • shaking
  • house soiling
  • anxiety
Fear of Traffic (Air breaking, cars back firing/dumper trucks)
  • not wanting to go out for walks
  • shaking
  • salivation
  • running away
Fear of the Central Heating System (Boiler action)
  • hiding under/behind furniture
  • running away

Dogs that have not experienced a wide range of different noises during their puppy-hood are at risk of developing excessive sensitivity to sound, which can lead to other problems. Sounds Sociable incorporates a range of domestic noises such as vacuum cleaners and children, outdoor noises such as traffic and aircraft sounds and unusual noises such as applause and rattling metal, all of which will prepare your puppy for adulthood and help to prevent any future sound phobias developing.

Sounds Scary has been developed to help treat the most common sound phobias such as fireworks, thunder storms and gunshots. Sounds Speedy has been developed to help treat sound phobias of traffic noise. The programme works on desensitising and then counter-conditioning the dog. If your dog has developed a more specific sound phobia for example dish washer, central heating system or doors banging please contact us for more advice.

We will soon be launching a new product Sounds Speedy which has been developed to help treat sound phobias of traffic noises. The program works on the same lines as Sound Scary with desensitising and then counter-conditioning the dog. If you would like more information on this new product then please contact us at the office.
