About Sound Therapy 4 Pets
Sound Therapy 4 Pets was started in 2001 by Sarah Heath and Jon Bowen, two veterinary surgeons who are internationally renowned in the field of behavioural medicine. Sarah and Jon are published authors, lecture internationally and operate behavioural referral services at veterinary colleges in the UK. Sound Therapy 4 Pets produces and sells products that Sarah and Jon have designed or use in their own clinics.
The range of behavioural therapy CDs sold through Sound Therapy 4 Pets is unique. Jon and Sarah were involved in every stage of the design and manufacture of these products, ensuring that they are effective, simple to use and address specific problems that they have identified as a result of their extensive experience.
Since the original Sounds Scary firework therapy CD was launched in 2001 numerous competitors have attempted to emulate this product. However, unlike cheaper competitor products the sounds on the CDs are not stock ones from a sound effects library or amateur recordings made in the back garden, they are made and edited using professional equipment. Many hours are taken to selectively edit and modify the sounds, write and test the instruction leaflets so that they are easy to use and effective.
The benefit of this approach was confirmed in a recent, independent scientific test of Sounds Scary vs. a competitor product. In this test a remarkable 93 % of users said that they would use Sounds Scary product again if they had another dog that was scared of fireworks, and there was a significant improvement in the dogs' behaviour on all measurements. Users said they found the product easy to use. For the competitor product the range of improvements was less significant and 30% of users said they saw no improvement at all. This confirmed our own experience that sound-based therapies are very beneficial, but that the design of the disc and methodology are critical.
