Pet Therapy: How it works
Sound therapy 4 Pets produces four CD-based products that all work in slightly different ways. The common factor is that they all rely on sound recordings to alter the pet's reaction to a situation. The reason for this is that sound is the dog's early warning system that it uses to detect and avoid trouble. If we can alter the dog's reaction to sounds we can often make a big difference to its over all behaviour.
For example, the Sounds Scary product is used to reduce a phobic dog's sensitivity to firework, gunshot and thunder noises using a clever mixture of techniques that are easy to apply and fun for the animal. These methods are clearly explained and the product comes with two discs of the noises that are most commonly associated with these phobias, including rain and hail noises.
Sounds Speedy is our latest product. It has been desgined to help treat dogs that have a fear of traffic noises. The products includes a disc of specially recorded common traffic sounds that have been put into a format that are used to reduce a dog's sensitivity. The pack also incudes a 25 page comprehensive manual that explains how to conduct the training.
Sounds Soothing is used to reduce the potential problem when a new baby comes into a home where there is an existing pet. Dogs and cats have exceptionally good hearing and the sound of a baby crying is often quite disturbing to them if they have not heard this kind of sound before. Not only this but dogs also find the change in routine quite difficult to cope with especially if they are suddenly forbidden to get on furniture or get onto their owner’s lap. So Sounds Soothing contains a CD of baby and toddler noises together with some simple training regimes that can be used to reduce the dog’s stress when its life changes with the baby’s arrival.
Our other preventative product is Sounds Sociable. This is a pack of training tips for puppies and a CD of noises that pups must get used to in order to stay relaxed in any situation they encounter. We know from recent research that puppies born in autumn tend not to develop sound phobias of fireworks because they are used to hearing them when they were very young. Now we can extend this to gunshots, thunder and a range of everyday noises by playing the Sounds Sociable CD to puppies in order to get them used to noise before they go out into the world. There are also important tips on how to settle a puppy at night, prevent play biting etc.
Having launched these products we decided that it would be good to make available a range of other products that we regularly use and have confidence in. This includes books, training aids and pheromone products.
