Monty is a 6 month old ginger tom cat, taken on by one of our staff members at the age of 8 weeks. Monty was a feral kitten that had been taken in by a lady working for a cat charity. He had suffered from a ruptured eye ball and was taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment. He spent four weeks in the vets until he had become so aggressive the nurses were unable to medicate him with his eye drops. A decision was made that he needed the left over tissue to be removed from his eye, but first the infection needed to clear up. Kim took on this kitten to try socialise him and build up his confidence with people and a house environment so that the treatment could be completed. Before the kitten came home. Feliway diffusers were put in place up stairs and down stairs. Monty came home and was first confined to one room. He spent 3 weeks under the bed only coming out at night for a quick look around. Over time with the Feliway spray being sprayed around the room every day and the diffuser plugged in continuously, Monty began to come round. The eye infection cleared and it was time to have his operation, five weeks after he had left the vets he was off there again. Kim sprayed the cat carrier with Feliway Spray and the vets were asked to spray the pen he would be going into. Monty had his operation and all went well. Now the veterinary treatment was over it was time to work on socialising him. Due to the fact that Monty had started life as a feral Kitten it was very important to socialise him to all household noises that he would need to treat as part of everyday life. The Sound Sociable CD was used on the very lowest volume level over the next few weeks and this level was gradually turned up until weeks later the CD was playing at a higher noise level. Monty had become confident with life. He learned to cope with the vacuum cleaner, the washing machine and all other household noises , through using the Sound sociable CD Monty learnt that all these noises, that before were very scary had no negative effect on him. Slowly over time he built up more and more confidence. Monty is now a very well settled cat, he goes in and out of the cat flap, and he travels round the whole house. He rubs up against the family two German Shepard dogs and even has been known to sleep with the dogs in their beds. Monty still has Feliway diffusers in place just as that extra reassurance and he is doing very well thanks to the combination of Feliway and the Sounds Sociable CD.
